How I work ✨in the age of AI Engineering✨

01. Communication

This is always the first step in my process and something I return to at every stage. My communication is deliberately human, it's one of the few parts of my workflow I don't pass off to AI.

Whether it's as simple as discussing issues on Slack (if someone sends me one more em dash I'm going to lose it πŸ‘Ί), direct client communications or clarifying requirements with my POs/PMs and peers, the goal is always clarity.

About

On June 10th 2021, a software engineer was born (sort of). Not in the way you would think, not following the typical heroes journey...

I got bonked (get your mind out of the gutter). My head, I hit it. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu casuality, like many before me. But from that day forth, nothing would be the same...

It was as if all of the hours my dad spent dragging me to Canada Computers and making me watch him try to run Linux on his PC, was suddenly released from my subconscious.

I spent the next year and a half on Discord, YouTube and StackOverflow teaching myself how to code. I did it on a 2011 MacBook air (may she rest in peace πŸ™πŸ»), in my tiny bachelor apartment in Toronto.

Outside of tippy-typing on my laptop day-to-day, you can find me...

Making art

I have a background in visual arts! My favourite mediums are sculpture (pottery, stone/metal work) and mixed medium (usually a combo of acrylic and pencil crayon).

More recently I've been into digital art. All illustrations here have been made by me in Procreate 🀠

Adventuring with my dog

Chula is a rescue (potcake) from Costa Rica. She loves to go for runs to the dog park, learn new tricks (our claim to fame is jumping through my arms) and whining until she gets a snack.

Jamming

Like most people, music plays a huge part in my life. I taught myself how to play guitar when I was 13 by watching YouTube videos and listening along to songs on my iPod shuffle 🀘🏻

If you happen to be my neighbour in Toronto and have seen me jumping around my condo with my Yamaha and singing into a hairbrush, no you didn't.

Experimenting in the kitchen

All my friends know my day-to-day meals resemble what you would see in a state penitentiary, however they also know that if they've been invited over for dinner - they're eating good.

Lately I've been into homemade pasta, fresh bagels and trying to master the croquembouche.

Moving & Grooving

I worked as a CrossFit, Powerlifting and Olympic lifting coach (and competitor!) for over 10 years. Coaching people has made me a better human and a better engineer.

While I can no longer deadlift 350lbs or throw my bodyweight overhead, I find joy in yoga, walking, bodybuilding and have hopes of completing an IronMan in the near future.
